2026 Election Voting Tips

by Jaime Kokaisel

Over the past week I have been posting quite a bit on Facebook about the candidates who will appear on your November 3, 2026 ballots in South Washington County, Minnesota. This journal entry will conclude my research and include the final sorting of candidates by their stance on education. The words of Dorothy Sayers have challenged me not to see SoWashCo Schools as a problem to be solved but as a “human situation subject to the law of human nature, whose evil is at all times rooted in its good, and whose good can only redeem, but not abolish, its evil.” Do you believe in the power of spiritual redemption? If so, then please, over the next 24 hours, join me in fasting prayer and supplication for the families, teachers, staff, students, administrators, and residents of this area to receive the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Pray that the LORD our God, in His mercy and grace, will cleanse our school district from all unrighteousness. Pray the Holy Spirit will convict us of our sinful nature (such as the purchasing of wicked school curriculum, the passing of wicked school policy, the election of wicked office holders, and the whoring after false idols) for it is all vanity. Pray we, as a district, come to the knowledge and understanding that our greatest NEED is not to be found in a global industrial workforce whose labor produces meaninglessness, but that our greatest NEED is to be found in Christ Jesus, who Himself is the Light and Life and Love of the world. If it be the will of our Father in heaven, pray the residents of South Washington County will elect candidates of moral upright character into human office this election season and turn the shadow of turning away from Death toward eternal Life. Thank you for praying with me in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Situation to be Redeemed

Dorothy Sayers has inspired the way I see public education. Her words have challenged me not to see SoWashCo Schools as a problem to be solved but as a “human situation subject to the law of human nature, whose evil is at all times rooted in its good, and whose good can only redeem, but not abolish, its evil.”
This makes me think of the bronze serpent on a pole (Numbers 21) which foreshadows Jesus’ human body hanging on the cross … In both instances, God does not remove the snake (sin) to solve a “problem”, but rather He requires we look upon our own sinful nature in a public manner, and He redeems our situation through the process of repentance. This is how I intend to address PEACE WITH MAN in 2027. As for now, we have an election at hand, and I will be posting a couple Voting Tips.
“The good that emerges from a conflict of values cannot arise from total condemnation or destruction of one set of values but only from the building of a new value, sustained, like an arch, by the tension of the original two. We do not, that is, merely examine the data to disentangle something that was in them already: we use them to construct something that was not there before: neither circumcision nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.”

SoWashCo School Board Elections

Some are asking me if District 833 is having a school board election this year, so I’ll begin by addressing this question. No, not this year.
Next year, three school board members will have reached their four-year term, and we will have the opportunity, once again, to vote. There will actually be A LOT to talk about next year because SoWashCo is having a harder time balancing their budget than I’ve ever seen before.
For now, let us be in prayer and deliberation over God’s redemption process and His plan for public education in Minnesota. All rulers are put in place by God for our good. Will Minnesota elect Federal and State office holders this year whose moral code of law is in alignment with the created order of origin? or not?
I would also like to talk about the constitutional amendment on our ballot this November 3, 2026, so more to come on that…

Astronomical Wordview

The process of election is a holy matter, one the human language is not adequate to fully express. To speak of the political left and right is futile. The conversation always ends in us yearning for more because national elections truly do speak to the higher order of eternal power. Therefore I will speak of human politics in astronomical terms.
Here is a collision of worldviews, or storms, fighting to become Minnesota law as of late. On the left is a Geocentric astronomical model. This was the worldview of the western civilized world up until the 17th century; it is the belief that the Earth is a fixed object in the center of the Universe, and all other planets and stars orbit around Earth. Despite the scientific evident to prove otherwise, this model of self-worship is alive and well at the Minnesota State Capitol today. These are those who write moral codes of law that contradict laws of natural order.
On the right is the Heliocentric model of astronomy. This worldview was proven true by the scientific discoveries of Nicolaus Copernicus (1515), Galileo, Johannes Kepler (1610), and Sir Isaac Newton (1687). The Earth and planets revolve around the Sun at the center of the Universe. At the Minnesota State Capitol, this model represents those legislators who, more or less, worship God and view man’s source of peace, light and life as coming not from within but from without self. These are those whose moral code of law aligns with the natural order of creation.
If you are a Christian who finds the human political process dirty, I hope this analogy bring you peace and clarity over the process of election. After all, salvation is a holy election process. “And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.” (Romans 8:30) Read more at https://jaimekokaisel.com/peace-with-self-is-what/

Federal Office - US Senate

Currently, Federal agencies only fund about 8-10% of elementary and secondary education in America, but it is still worth discussing because the Federal role in education is a targeted “kind of ’emergency response system,’ a means of filling gaps in State and local support for education when critical national needs arise.” (Learn more at https://www.ed.gov/…/ed-overview/federal-role-in-education )
Over the next week, I am going to zero in on the candidates you will have on your ballot, as a SoWashco resident. and the education stance each offers publicly. I will not be saying who I think you should vote for, but rather provide websites for you to research and vote your convictions. I will say the US Senate race is most fascinating to me in that Flanagan appears to desire an expansion of federal control over education (as evidenced by the shear volume of content) while Tafoya appears to desire a limit or reduction of federal control over education.
• Michele Tafoya : “Bring Back Courage and Common Sense : Get men out of women’s sports. The radical social experiments on our daughters have to stop. As our Senator, Michele will protect Minnesota kids from insane ideologies and keep men out of women’s sports and locker rooms. Stronger schools and parents’ rights. Minnesota’s schools used to be a crown jewel. Now they’ve become a jobs program for grownups while students’ test scores have fallen. As our Senator, Michele will fight for education reform that restores parents’ say, increases transparency and accountability and reverses the decline in test scores.” (Learn more at micheletafoya.com )
• Marisa Simonetti : No working website to pull info about education stance at the time of gathering info 10/26/26. (Learn more at n/a)
• Rebecca Whiting : No mention of education on website as of at the time of gathering info 10/26/26. (Learn more at whiting4senate.us )
• Peggy Flanagan : “From cradle to career : Public schools, colleges and universities are often some of the largest employers and economic drivers in their community. Thriving schools, where all learners have what they need to be successful, lead to thriving communities. Today, we ask our teachers and schools to carry too high a burden with too little support. And the Trump Administration is causing chaos and playing political games with funding for our students. As a former Minneapolis School Board member, the former Executive Director of the Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota, the Lt. Governor of Minnesota, and the mom of a middle schooler, Peggy knows education. During her time as Lt. Governor Minnesota passed a historic increase in funding for public education, including expanding special education seats, and she helped spearhead the universal school meal program to keep kids fed and lower grocery bills for parents, so everyone can focus on what’s most important, learning. She will take these results to Washington to fight for resources for early learning, special education, and career education to level the playing field for children across the state. The Head Start program is an essential part of our childcare infrastructure in Minnesota, serving 12,500 kids each year. Peggy supports not only reversing the cuts made by the Trump Administration, but expanding Head Start for more families so parents can go to work knowing their kids are learning and taken care of in high quality environments. The biggest raise many families get is when their kids start kindergarten, and childcare costs come off their budget–that was the case for Peggy. Peggy supports expanding publicly financed universal Pre-K to get kids into high quality learning environments, and improve family budgets. Access to special education is a right, but access to quality special education has not been realized for far too many kids because the federal government has never lived up to its promise. Peggy believes Congress needs to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Your zip code should not dictate the quality of your education. Peggy believes parents, teachers, and students should make classroom decisions, and that the federal government should have a larger role in funding K-12 education, without a voucher program, so schools can retain and adequately pay a quality workforce and that students have access to the resources they need while not solely relying on property taxes to make up funding gaps. … In many communities, schools go beyond their core education mission and provide services like health and mental healthcare, dental services, nutrition, and after school programming. Peggy supports expanding the Full-Service Community School program to strengthen the communities our kids are growing up in. Peggy was serving as Lt. Governor of Minnesota when she paid off her student loans. Instead of punishing student borrowers, Peggy believes we need to expand opportunities for tuition support and loan forgiveness for people serving in essential public sector roles including teaching and healthcare, especially in rural and underserved communities.” (Learn more at peggyflanagan.com )

Federal Office - US Congress

“In 1979, Congress established the U.S. Department of Education as the primary executive agency tasked with implementing federal education law and enforcing education-related civil rights law..” says the National Conference of State Legislatures (Learn more at https://www.ncsl.org/…/faq-the-education-department-and… )
This vote affects us at the local level because only Congress has the power to reorganize the internal structure of the Department of Education should a president wish to do so. A congressional candidate who wishes to condense some of the departments functions and limit federal control over public education will ultimately benefit SoWashCo Schools in that they are trusting school boards, parents and teachers to do what is best.
DISTRICT 2
• Matt Little : No mention of education on website as of at the time of gathering info 10/26/26 (Learn more at littleforcongress.com )
• Eric Pratt : “School Safety: Establish a Common Standard for Protecting Our Children. Parents should be able to send their children to school knowing reasonable safety measures are in place. Just as we establish basic standards to protect students from fires and other emergencies, Eric supports developing clear federal school-safety standards to help schools prepare for and respond to threats. Those standards should focus on practical safeguards, emergency planning, communication, and coordination with local first responders while giving communities flexibility in how they meet them. Every child, teacher, and staff member deserves a safe place to learn and work.” (Learn more at ericprattmn.com )

State Office - MN Governor

Since the residents of South Washington County Schools do not have school board candidates on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot, I will post the top three most impactful offices you WILL have on your ballot for Minnesota schools, beginning with the office of GOVERNOR.
What is the role of government education? Demuth speaks of it in terms of academic excellence that benefits classrooms, children and taxpayers. Klobuchar speaks of skills-based job training that benefits adults, systems and workforces. Which candidate sounds more Heliocentric versus Geocentric in their worldview? Like I said earlier, I will not tell you who to vote for, but I will sort each out into one of two categories by Monday.
• Lisa Demuth : “Minnesota schools need a dramatic reset. Despite years of increased investment, our test scores have stagnated and too many kids are moving through our education system despite failing to meet basic benchmarks for reading, writing, math, and science. As Governor I will lead an education revolution that puts academic excellence and reading proficiency at the center of our agenda. I will fight to keep woke gender and racial ideology out of our classrooms and focus dollars in the classroom instead of on growing the education bureaucracy that is driving up local property taxes across Minnesota.” (Learn more at lisaformn.com )
• Amy Klobuchar : “Prepare Minnesota’s Workforce for the Future : Amy Klobuchar knows there are many paths to success. As Governor, she’ll make sure Minnesotans can get the skills they need to build a good life here at home. She’ll build real on-ramps to good jobs, doubling apprenticeships and workforce training in the trades, health care, public safety, and emerging industries. She’ll raise academic achievement with evidence-based curriculum, tutoring to help kids catch up, and a focus on reading and math skills in elementary classrooms. And she’ll open doors to college and credentials, building partnerships between employers and colleges, expanding three-year degrees, and helping middle and high school students get a head start. Because anybody willing to work should have a path to success.” (Learn more at amyklobuchar.com )
• Steven Young : No mention of education on website as of at the time of gathering info 10/26/26. (Learn more at steveformn.info )

State Office - MN Senate

On your ballot November 3, 2026 will be the offices of STATE GOVERNOR, SENATOR and HOUSE REPRESENTATIVE. Since you do not have school board candidates to vote for this year, these three offices will impact Minnesota schools more than anything else on your ballot. You may think of these three offices as those in authority over every public school district in Minnesota (and school board). Yesterday I posted your candidates for GOVERNOR, and today I post your candidates for SENATOR. (If you are unsure which district you live in, view Minnesota Senate Maps at https://www.sos.mn.gov/…/data-maps/minnesota-senate-maps/ and view your ballot, while you are at it )
SENATE DISTRICT 41
• Tom Dippel : Of his 2025 Session Accomplishments, two relate to education. “I was proud to co-sponsor HF2023, a bill that passed unanimously on April 30, bringing overdose prevention education to our schools to tackle the opioid crisis head-on and give our kids the tools to stay safe. In March, I introduced a bill close to my heart, education freedom accounts, to let families like yours use state funding to choose the best schooling options for your kids, with leftover funds even helping toward college tuition.” Dippel has chief-authored many bills related to education and listed those on his website, including HF 5126 – School Construction Calendar Flexibility, HF4163 – Improve School Board Governance, HF3841 – Protecting Parental Rights, HF3842 – Protecting Student Health, HF2895 – Expand Educational Opportunities, HF2893 – Improve School Discipline Flexibility, and HF1457 – Prioritize Safe School Locations. (Learn more at dippelformn.com )
• Judy Seeberger : Among her six listed priorities, education is not on her website as a priority as of at the time of gathering info 10/26/26. The only time education is mentioned is in reference to a bill, SF2659, SF1687 – Fighting Fentanyl Package, Judy chief-authored. “I am committed to continuing to fight for legislation to keep fentanyl out of neighborhoods, homes, schools, and communities.” (Learn more at judyforsenate.com )
SENATE DISTRICT 47
• Brian Stalboerger : “Return MN to Education Excellence” is among Brian’s top three priorities (as stated on his website homepage). He has detailed out his platform on education quite extensively, including both practical and philosophical. His practical highlights include, “-Remove the more than 60 unfunded mandates the Legislature forced on schools. Stop micromanaging teachers and let them teach. -Return the primary focus in public schools to the basics of reading, writing, math while allowing for students to grow in enjoyment of learning by incorporating the humanities, physical education, and shop classes as they mature and pursue their preferences. -In 2025 Congress passed Education Freedom Tax Credits which will help all students have more choice in K-12 education. It does not cost the state of Minnesota anything. Each governor must opt-in to the program, and Governor Walz is one of the few nationwide who have prevented students from receiving this benefit. -Ban smartphones from the classroom. -Greatly reduce the use of technology and screens in the classroom. This investment has failed and coincides with the downward trend in positive outcomes for children.” (Learn more at brianformn.com )
• Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger : Education is not mentioned among the top priorities or results on Amanda’s website, but “strong schools” is mentioned as an issue among the six things she will work to protect in making “a good life” possible. This “good life” Amanda intends to protect is made more clear by looking at those who have endorsed her campaign (ie Education Minnesota, Planned Parenthood, Stonewall DFL, Gender Justice Action PAC, Outfront Minnesota, Pro-Choice Minnesota, etc). The only mention of education on her website is “Investing in Education – Stable School Funding – Supported a statewide ballot measure that would increase funding for local school districts through the Permanent School Fund.“ (Learn more at amandaformn.com )
SENATE DISTRICT 53
• Todd Podgorski : Education & Opportunity is listed among Todd’s top six priorities. “Todd believes education & opportunity go hand in hand. His own story reflects that; Todd and his wife Carrie met while attending Minnesota state colleges where Carrie earned a degree in education and has been a teacher for over 20 years. As a former school board member, Todd knows strong schools are essential to strong communities. He is committed to supporting & strengthening public education and ensuring every student has access to the tools they need to succeed.” His slogan is Putting Families First. (Learn more at toddpodgorski.com )
• Paul Cumings : Educational achievement is listed among Paul’s top five priorities. “STRONG, HIGH ACHIEVING FULLY FUNDED PUBLIC SCHOOLS – Strong public schools are the bedrock of our community and the lifeblood of our economy. Every Minnesota child deserves high quality public education, regardless of who they are and where they are from. When our state doesn’t fund our schools adequately, local leaders are left to pick up the pieces and ask working families to fund schools through higher property taxes. Our students deserve better from our state leaders. That’s why as our State Senator, I’ll work with parents, educators, and community members to give all kids the world-class education they need. I will work to fix the compensatory aid formula hurting our school districts and ensure we are keeping high standards in the new age of artificial intelligence.” His slogan is Better. Together. He is endorsed by Education Minnesota, Outfront Minnesota, Planned Parenthood, etc. (Learn more at paulcumings.com )

Constitutional Amendment

On the website finance pages of SoWashCo Schools, you will find a video about state school funding which is pertinent to the PSF discussion, as well as future district referendum requests https://www.sowashco.org/about-us/finance… I will argue that your position on this ballot questions all comes down to the ROLE you believe government education should play as related to your NEEDS as a family. The state says in this video, “Schools have taken on additional responsibilities to meet the NEEDS of their students and community.”
Is this not false? If government education is becoming more of a global workforce endeavor, then is not public education more about meeting the NEEDS of a global workforce than meeting the NEEDS of an individual student or a local community?
The Minnesota Permanent School Fund (PSF) has continually generated revenue for public schools since Minnesota became a state in 1858. That’s a long time. The money has come from Minnesota’s natural resources (timber, mining and land leases) for the past 168 years, which reminds me just how much has changed since then. Minnesota public education has seen radical change.
Back when the PSF was established, the ROLE of government education was not to meet the NEEDS of a workforce, as it is now. The family did not NEED a caregiver. The family did not NEED a government school to fill their healthcare, dental services, nutrition, child care, palliative, diagnostic or therapeutic care. The family did not NEED a government school “keeping kids fed and lowering grocery bills” as Flanagan so proudly espouses spearheading during her time in office. Come to think of it, the family did not NEED the government to educate their children either. For early Minnesotan immigrants, families and churches were the primary educators of their children. The government took that ROLE unto themselves (sometimes by force) to facilitate student acquisition of knowledge, skills and cognitive development.
So now SoWashCo Schools, and many others, are facing the dilemma of declining enrollment, but instead of seeking to understand why so many of us became unsatisfied with the system and pulled our children out … instead of questioning their unsustainable business model of Death … instead of seeking to redeem public education for the good of the people … No! Minnesota public school districts, the likes of SoWashCo Schools, seek to divide your children by class and to shame those parents choosing other more sustainable models of learning.

If we are to redeem this situation of public education, it’s NOT going to take more money. It’s NOT going to take more human political power. No Permanent School Fund, nor political party on your ballot for that matter, can make straight that which God has made crooked, or count that which is lacking (Ecclesiastes 1:15).

If you believe public education is a situation to be redeemed and not just another problem to be solved, then pray. Pray all night, and pray all day long with me on Tuesday. Pray for the redeeming power of Christ to wash over South Washington County, Minnesota!

There is no shadow of turning in God, but there is much about His creation that DOES turn. Human politics is no different. Win or lose on Tuesday, just remember that all human governing authority submits to God. So really we cannot lose. We may not fully understand the ways of God, but we can fully trust and submit to His authority knowing that the will of the Father is ultimately better for us that our own human will.
This, of course, won’t stop me from praying God’s intervention over Tuesday’s election. May we elect candidates who intend to lift young learners up rather than to pull young learners down. May we elect candidates who are grounded in Truth, who know peace comes from outside the self, and who believe in educational excellence and in the unseen powers of the universe.
For in Christ,“the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them..” (Matthew 11:5, ESV)
As it turns out, the political Left and the political Right behave much like that of gravity driven convection – red and blue, hot and cold, heaven and earth, temporal and eternal. It is an interesting conundrum to wrap ones head around. There must be an equilibrium to the forces pulling outward in both directions. There must be a high to match the low pressure system, and vice versa. There must be a political Left to match the political Right extreme, and vice versa.
At first glance, shadow is the result of light, woman is the result of man, valley is the result of mountain, falling is the result of rising, and death is the result of life. But in Christ, Death is defeated and the narrative flips: LIFE IS THE RESULT OF DEATH. Without the first, the latter cannot be, for without the light there can be no shadow, and without the shadow there can be no death, and without death there can be no new creation in Christ.

Make Straight Paths in 2026

The theme for 2026 is “Make Straight Paths” as a way for the believer to prepare his/her heart, soul, mind and strength for the second coming of Christ. We can know how to do this by following John the Baptist’s lead who baptized sinners in the water Jordan for the glory of God. We can trust that God will go before us to level high ground, open closed doors and cut through thick bars (Isaiah 45:2).
Moses divided the water with his staff at God’s instruction. As prophesied, John the Baptist prepared the way for the LORD at His first coming and in so doing divided the Old Testament from the New.
THIS IS A CALL TO ACTION. Lord, Forge Us With Fire As A Body Of Christ – The Church!
When you are one in Christ, your body is a temple of the living God. You are His house of prayer, His school of study, His place of assembly, and His center of military training. 1 John 4:1-4 tells us we are to learn the difference between His Spirit and the spirit of the antichrist who is now in the world. We are to test the allegiance of EVERY spirit and teach our children to do the same.
This series builds off all previous year themes in Jaime’s Illustrated Journal.
SUMMARY: Prior to 2024, the focus of my Journal (Blog) was primarily public school policy and election research. The very first article I published came just after losing my 2021 campaign for district 833 school board, Welcome To My Blog in 2022. We succeeded at defeating the bond referendum that year and, after the state election, I moved into a series about the Minnesota Achievement and Integration program (A&I) with The Transparency Series in 2023. Later that year, I ran for school board again, and the heartache of this second loss led me to write the Real or Fake series in 2024. I designed a survey called Chosen Pathways which served as an information gathering tool from SoWashCo families and jump started the idea of This Little School+House. Together with the Borders and Boundaries series of 2025, This Little School+House has set out to answer the question “What is education, actually?” I then helped launch a LifeWise Academy in South Washington County where we teach public school children the Gospel during school hours, and my current writing series follows through on a campaign promise I made to the LORD in 2023 – Make Straight Paths in 2026.
